It's the end of the year as we know it

Race you to 2024

It is the 31st of December and I'm sitting in a hotel room tapping at my phone. The tiny round table holds my Nintendo Switch, a small bottle of ginger-grapefruit shots and a bag of mango-maracuja gummi candies. I have a leather-bound dragon-embossed notebook (a Christmas gift from my daughter) but no pen. I appear to be leaving 2023 as disorganised as I entered it.

Accidents and Incidents has settled into a bit of a rhythm, with new essays around the 15th and 31st of every month, most of which were available to all subscribers. Supporters had a few extra essays and received personal postcards from Soomaa, Bastei, and Zurich. I'll be sending more in 2024 along with a few extra updates from Iceland, where I'll be a writer in residence on the island of Hrìsey for the month of March. Subscribers will also get an early edition of My Brother is a Tractor and other Estonian conversation starters towards the end of the year, so that's exciting!

I'm planning to sleep through the annual upgrade process and I'll take a look at 2024 in the morning, starting with a large buffet breakfast at the local Turkish restaurant. Hopefully I can avoid getting into any trouble between now and then!

Thank you so much for joining me here and I'm looking forward to another year!

Happy New Year to you and yours.

-Sylvia
